Youngster is determined to build a good professional career but needs about Shs4m to help him compete in South African tournaments.

KAMPALA

Uganda’s tennis youngster David Oringa is in need of Shs4m to help him travel to South Africa early next year.

Oringa returned from Kigali on Friday after being eliminated from the Rwanda International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures by Italian Riccardo Sinicropi.

Despite the 6-1, 6-1 defeat, the Ugandan bagged his first ITF point for beating Rwandan Dieudonne Habiyambere 2-6 6-1 6-2 to make the second round of the main draw. “I was delighted to get the point but not satisfied,” the Uganda Open winner stated.

And Oringa will not rest as he continues his bid to build a career as a tennis professional. “I want to enter as many more circuits as possible and score points to become a professional,” an optimistic Oringa said.

While featuring in the Burundi and Rwanda circuits last month, Oringa spent close to Shs2m for three weeks. He got assistance from the Uganda Charity Trust Fund and Muhumuza Mpeka to play three tournaments in the two countries. Oringa won only three of the six matches he played in the past month. He reckons the South African trip is very important for his career.
