Oringa up against Italian Sinicropi

In Summary

Tennis. The Ugandan youngster is in the ITF Futures circuit second round.

Ugandan David Oringa is hoping for victory when he plays tournament seed four Riccardo Sinicropi in the second round of the Rwanda International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures today.
The Uganda Open winner is high on confidence having defeated Rwandan Dieudonne Habiyambere 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the main draw on Monday.

“I am not under any pressure,” Oringa, 19, said. “I have seen Sinocropi play several times. “I have to prove my worth by beating the big guns,” he added. With his leg injury steadily healing, Oringa knows victory over the Italian will bring him closer to the money bracket. “I will play my heart out for a good result,” Oringa, who negotiated his way from the qualifying round by beating Swedish William Edin in straight sets 6-4 6-2 on Saturday, noted.

Against Habiyambere, Oringa was so clinical. After losing the first set 2-6, the Rwandan crowd thought the Ugandan’s journey had ended.
But he silenced them with a pacy game in the subsequent sets.

In recording that victory, Oringa had gained revenge over Habiyambere, who ousted him at the Rwanda ITF/CAT Prize Money circuit with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in September. Heading into today’s clash, Oringa will need another top drawer display to stand a chance against Sinicropi.

But even if he fails to go past the Italian, the Ugandan will return with his head high.

He has performed far much better than he did in the Burundi and first Rwanda circuits where he was eliminated in the qualifying rounds.
