Ugandan David Oringa finds himself in an unfamiliar territory going into the Burundi International Tennis Futures (ITF) tournament.
Always among the top seeds in most local and regional tournaments, at least for the past one year, the youngster has to play in the qualifiers after earning a wildcard to Burundi.
“I am not worried,” Oringa, among 31 male wildcard entrants, said.
“I will give my best at the battle field,” added Oringa after training with his doubles partner Moses Otiti at Lugogo on Tuesday.
Oringa was seeded and went on to beat Rwanda’s Mathieus Uwizeyimana to win this year’s Uganda Open at the Lugogo in June.
When he fell to Dieudonne Habiyambere at the Rwanda CAT Prize money circuit, Oringa had also been seeded number four.
But his journey to a professional career is starting to become rough as he must now start from the lowest of levels in the Burundi event. “After all this hard work, I will be able to compete favourably,” Oringa said, recounting the over two months of intensive training.
