Dear Pat, much as it is taken as a spice, pepper has its own nutritional value since it has protein, vitamins like C, and minerals.
Its burning taste has led to false belief that it causes burning in the anus which is usually caused by piles, infections and soaps used to wash the anus!The infections today are increasingly being found sexually transmitted.
Compared to green pepper, red pepper has more vitamins and nutrients and contains the antioxidant lycopene touted to prevent prostate cancer. The level of carotene in red pepper is also higher. Red pepper has twice the vitamin C content of green pepper.
