Faze 3, a place like no other

What you need to know:

  • Fulfilling. It is rare, even with the rapid growth of Uganda’s restaurant business, to find a place like Faze 3.
  • Things like public areas, kitchen and eats are properly catered for and any person will appreciate the difference.
  • Price range: Bits & Bobs for starters from Shs5,000 to Shs16,000 including empanadas, garlic bread, fish goujons, grilled pork chops Shs32,000, grilled filet steak, french fries Shs8,000, steamed basmati rice Shs8,000, egg fried rice Shs12,000 and the piece de resistance whole leg of roast pork at Shs40,000.

There is much wisdom in putting up a restaurant such as Faze 3 from scratch. This is evident from the layout.
Things like public areas, kitchen and eats are properly catered for and any person will appreciate the difference.
The men’s loos are impeccable with a stainless urinal that is spread from one end to the other. The property is designed much like a brasserie in the French style and it is stunning in its own simplicity while at the same time managing to achieve a sense of convivial ambience.
The furniture is imported and mercifully spared out on the tacky plastics that are more the rule than the exception.
The dropped ceiling is non-traditional burlap giving the place a rustic touch while at the same time not being out of place.
The alfresco setting that offers a view of the lake is another bonanza coupled with the wonderful and lazy lake breeze.
At the same time, this patio is large enough to accommodate a cocktail party for a hundred or so . It is disputable that that sort of arrangement is always better in an alfresco setting than indoors.
As might be expected the same winning formula prevailing over Faze II in Kampala, a fusion kind of cooking that incorporates the best of the East Indian tandoori, spit grilled leg of pork, decent grilled steaks, rice, chips and snacks.
For a relatively modest tenner or so one could comfortably get by with a couple of pork bites or samosas and a soda and call it a day.
Of course, this would be strictly a biting the bullet situation but more realistically, for a couple of very filling and tasty entrees you are looking at around Shs60,000 or Shs70,000 and depending on the types of drinks, it could be Shs100,000.
Last but not least, six years down the road and there is absolutely no let up or disappointment in service. What I really like about this joint is the sense of things being what they should be and no nasty surprises.
All too often, even after going the whole hog and setting up something like this, one finds little irritating imperfections such as no loo paper, untidiness and slovenly waiters.
But I am glad to say that all is well and in order over at Faze 3.
