MY KAFUNDA: From the weighing scale into the pan

If it had not been for my sister Ethel’s recommendation, I would never have discovered Dot P’G despite it being on my route home. It had always seemed like one of eateries that had nothing to offer, but loud kadongo kamu music and dingy environs where the maid and gateman would cuddle in a corner as they sipped cheap beer.

The first time I ventured into Dot P’G in Bukoto, I was lucky to find parking in the narrow stretch over the trench just in front of the pork butchery. I ordered half a kilogramme and waited anxiously for the cooks to do their magic.

A little over 30 minutes later, I was devouring tasty fried pork with tomatoes, cabbage, matooke and boiled cassava. It is embarrassing to admit that I ate it all and were it not for time, I would have ordered some more. Well, within one month I had visited more than five times and made promises to my friends for unforgettable treats.

Now every time on my way home, I try hard not to look in that direction because the feeling of having one gram extra on the weighing scale is not amusing.
