CHICKEN TIME. Mr Tasty Fried Chicken offers more than chips and chicken.

Going on five or six years, Mr Tasty fried chicken is fast becoming a household name in and around Kampala. Their first venture was a takeaway that used to belong to a group from South Africa and was located at Shoprite on Ben Kiwanuka Street. The man behind Mr Tasty Fried Chicken is Hassan Kalair, an astute business man from Pakistan.
Years ago, if one happened to have been in a takeaway especially one that specialised in serving chicken; it was not uncommon to order for particular parts of chicken and be stonewalled by the person taking the order. Takeaways had to make do with ordering whole chickens which meant that parts were availed according the dissecting of the chickens which generally meant eight ways at the most.

Fortunately, times have changed and if I’m not mistaken, Chicken Express located in Garden City was the first to realise the wisdom of featuring chicken parts on the menu thus allowing customers to make choices.
This too is the case at Mr Tasty Fried Chicken, though it would seem that they have a mass of chicken thighs than anything else. I do not believe they serve chicken wings which is a terrible shame since they are so versatile and tasty.
When I was growing up in America during the 60s, a friend told me that not until she grew up did she come to realise that there was more to chicken than the backs. As a matter of fact even to this day over at Shoprite they sell chicken backs thus ensuring that anyone can afford chicken.
What customer who buys chicken would not want something as delectable as the wings, or something more meaty and without the bones such as the breast?

Unique bits
Children love drumsticks and in the end there is no getting around the fact that there is a part for everyone and that includes the feet, gizzard, liver and backs.
When Mr Tasty Fried Chicken came on the scene, many of us thought that Kampala would see a deluge of quality fast food eating joints specialising in serving chicken but this has not been the case. With the exception of Kentucky Fried Chicken that came on the Ugandan scene a year ago.
To this day Mr Tasty Fried Chicken is the leader of the pack offering one more than limp fries, over done chicken that are the stock in trade of the average greasy spoon in town. However, one would have to dig a little deeper in the pocket than elsewhere.
It is a safe bet that whatever one orders here a great deal of attention and care has been taken into account to make certain that what you order and eat today shall taste very much the same as it did the last time. And this is the case at the different takeaways.

The damage: For Shs 12,000 you can get one piece of chicken, regular chips and Coke. If you went with the family, for Shs70,000 you would get 10 pieces of chicken including family fries and a 1.5 litre of Coke.
