Succulent Lobster Cantonese

It is always a welcome treat to frequent an establishment such as Fang Fang Chinese Restaurant and be showered with such attention as though one is a big spender or VIP.
Madam Fang has mastered the protocol of knowing who is who in society and in so doing, fully grasped the way of massaging egos of those who crave to be pampered like spoilt children when they come to dine at her place.

Last month, some friends and I had occasion to celebrate a wedding anniversary and what better choice than Fang Fang Chinese Restaurant? The trick here is to make a reservation in advance and discuss the menu with the staff.

You would be surprised as to how intimidating and awesome a Chinese menu can be to those who may not be terribly au fait with Chinese food. The treat left us simply dazed and wishing that we could repeat the experience more often.

For starters, I chose to the fabulous Shark Fin soup, a delicacy much prized by the Chinese and comes in the form of a clear broth that may take anywhere from three to five days of cooking in order to bring out and enhance its superb flavour.

Apart from the soup and starters, the rest had been ordered in advance so then we sat back and were regaled with an array of sumptuous dish after dish. First off the block was the Lobster Cantonese, a rather uncomplicated number with minced pork, fermented black beans and the usual condiments but in the end absolute ambrosia, an entrée that I would highly recommend for a festive occasion and in the company of food connoisseurs.

Last, was the fillet of Tilapia prepared and served at the table. This was a new one to me and turned out to be extraordinarily simple in its presentation. Consisting of finely sliced slivers of fish fillet that are delicately seasoned and then right in front of you, dipped in boiling oil. They are then fried and within minutes, are ready to eat. Amazing stuff, sublime and exquisite!

While on this occasion we choose to go the whole hog, the beauty of Fang Fang is that, one can get by on a comfortable and affordable budget by being selective in choosing.

Now if you choose to splurge no holds bared, then Madam Fang and her ever courteous members of staff will really go out of their way and see to it that you are looked after in a manner that can best be described as regal without appearing to be obsequious and fawning.
