What you need to know:

DELIGHT. It is all good and cool at The Spectrum Theatre La Bonita.

Few places in town, if any, can rival the magnitude of the buffet on offer at this landmark Kampala restaurant. Given the highly competitive nature of the culinary market that obtains in Kampala, Spectrum at La Bonita has chosen to carve their niche in an unrivalled and unsurpassed buffet creation that separates them from the high end joints such as Café Javas, La Patisserie, Khyber Pass, and the Bistro et al where an average meal cover would be around shs 30,000 mark.

Without a doubt this formula has proven to be a great successes and the aforementioned establishments all have their ardent followers who faithfully patronize them on a regular basis.
Around the year 2008 or thereabouts, a long time foodie and connoisseur and lady I have known for well nigh 30 years, decided that she would come up with her own different and certainly more exotic buffet with much wider range of food offerings across a broad spectrum of cuisines from different parts of the world.

The result is a truly cosmopolitan and global menu that takes in a bit of Indian in the form of paratha, chicken tikka, raita, while pepper steak and pasta bolognaise is decidedly continental in flavor and scope. From China one may come across chicken or vegetable egg rolls, vegetable stir fried rice, stir fried beef, hot and sour fish to name just a few items.
No dining establishment of this caliber would be complete without offering our much beloved Ugandan fare and in this case the matooke is always superbly done as should always be the case. The luwombos are another regular feature and there is always chicken and beef, ground nut sauce, yams, katunkuma, leafy greens and gonja.

Whereas several well-known joints that offer buffet, insist on limiting one to the number of pieces of chicken that one can eat, here there are no restrictions bar none; barbecue or chicken tikka as one may wish . To my mind, this is a far more welcoming attitude and those who frequently dine at this landmark venue never cease to rave about this amazing bounty for all of Shs 39,900 until one drops.

However, in all fairness, I would be remiss in not mentioning the similarity of the Spectrum buffet with a leading five star hotel albeit for a hefty Shs 75,000!
The food is as authentic as one would wish and the service is on the money and considering the wide selection on offer, Spectrumat La Bonita is a winner all round. Of course this article would not be complete without mentioning efforts of the veteran maître’d Godfrey Gyagenda who spent years honing and practicing his skills at the venerable Sheraton Kampala Hotel and is unequaled in his profession. Discreet, affable, knowledgeable and suave he is just what the doctor ordered.
