Mish Mash is going live every Thursday and Uganda will be musically celebrated on stage with live performances from live bands. You will have your chance to sing your favourite song too like was the case at the inaugural night last Thursday.
Your reporter almost ascended the stage to show crooners that writing and clicking away with the camera are not his only hobbies.
To open the night were the Harmonious Tales band that perfrormed between 6pm and 7pm. Thereafter, it was the jam session where anyone was free to go on stage and perform their favourite song for the audience.
The main highlight was the Janzi (local word to mean grasshopper) Band, which took us back to the fairy tales but in a musical way, telling of those stories we heard from our grannies.
The two lead female vocalists were something good for the ear and the instrumentalists did not disappoint either. The guy playing the nine-string arched harp locally known as adungu was passionate and so was the case for the drummer and the guitarists.
The setting of Mish Mash, located on plot 28 Acacia Avenue, Kololo, allows you enjoy the performance. Some revellers were on dates and tables were well-laid for them to have a great outing. The revellers in the upper gardens had seats too and mats were laid out for those who chose to sit down just close to the stage.
But you will not be seated all night for when the music tickles your waist, you are allowed to shake it and jump to the rhythm too.
The live session is the idea of Maloe Klassen, the managing director of Doh-U-G, the event organisers. “We have always wanted to organise regular concerts for Ugandan bands and musicians. Many are very good, but never get the opportunity to really show their art in the restaurant gigs they normally do. We are happy that Mish Mash shares these ideals,” Maloe explains.
No entry fee is charged. Look out for Zawuka Band this Thursday plus Milege, Roy Kasika and Valeur Kalinda in the weeks to follow.
