Thursday night was a night of local swag at Jazzville restaurant in Bugolobi as a number of people from the audience took to the stage to give their artistic expressions during the monthly Kwivuga Poetry Session. Many did poems while others chose to sing or rap attracting cheers from an enthusiastic crowd of friends and casual poetry fans.

Rabadaba was at hand to give some established rap and the crowd went bananas as the self-proclaimed King of Luga-ragga went through his poetic lyrics with the support of Sundowners Band. The event, organised and sponsored by Kinetic Management Group, has attracted a new breed of poets, singers, rappers, orators and all the people who do other forms of spoken word art.

The Poetry Session was originally started by Agaba Tumusime and Linda Butare Mulira, as an event designed to give a platform to artistic expression back in December at Gabiro in Bugolobi. Today it brings over 15 performers on the same stage and the likes of Klear Kut, poet Ruyonga, Rabadaba and Kenya’s A-Star have graced the event on different occasions.

People from the audience are also welcome to the stage. Backed by the outstanding Sundowners Band, people from all walks of life have always read original poems and given impromptu musical performances as well.

With more guest appearances and an ever-increasing fan base that is also eager to participate, you never know what to expect. Poetry is set to chase after standup comedy on the entertainment radar.
