M-Net has set up an independent body, to investigate circumstances leading to the rape of a housemate in the Big Brother South Africa Mzansi reality show.

There was huge public uproar in South Africa after a female housemate was raped on live TV in the ongoing Big Brother Mzansi reality show.

The incident forced the organizers of the show, produced by Endemol SA for Mzansi Magic on DStv, to expel the male housemate, Siyanda Ngwenya (Adam), who committed the offence and also the victim, Bexx (Axola Mbengo).

Adam is alleged to have raped Bexx Saturday night while she was completely drunk and had no control of her senses. The two housemates had been seen several times flirting on the show.
Adam is alleged to have lied about the incident when Bexx queried him on Sunday. He said nothing happened but he is told another housemate that he had sex with her.

The incident caused a huge uproar on twitter with many calling for the cancelation of the show, which kicked off on March 22, 2015. Some individuals are asking how producers could let a housemate be raped if Big Brother is always watching as they claim.

A statement by M-Net, according to Myjoyonline.com, Wednesday said it enlisted the services of South African law firm, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr “to independently investigate the processes surrounding the recent incident in the Big Brother house.”

According to the statement, signed by the company’s South African CEO Yolisa Phahle, “M-Net takes these matters seriously, and the wellbeing of contestants is of the utmost importance. It is necessary for M-Net to understand what transpired and we will take necessary action, if required, once the investigation is concluded.”

The statement added that Endemol Shine Africa, the production company responsible for Big Brother, has offered their full cooperation with the investigation.

“The launch of an independent investigation comes after the suspicion of possible sexual misconduct involving two contestants, Adams and Bexx, where both individuals were removed from the Big Brother house on Monday evening,” the statement concluded.
