Bobi Wine has done a number of socially conscious songs and his latest release, Tugambire Ku Jennifer, is another one. In the song, the self-proclaimed ghetto president comes out to sing about how the policies of the Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director, Jennifer Semakula Musisi, are affecting the common people.
“I am not attacking Jennifer (Musisi), but I wish for a city where its dwellers can freely work and earn. Kampala is for us all and for the city to grow, there have to be people,” Bobi Wine told fans at his concert at Kyaddondo Rugby Club.
The Friday night audience included politicians like outgoing Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) chief, Dr Kizza Besigye, Kampala’s Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, Kampala Central Division Mayor Godfrey Nyakana, Kawempe Mayor Mubarak Munyagwa and Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Andrew Felix Kaweesi, among others.
“If John McCain could work with Barack Obama, why can’t we do the same here in Uganda?” Bobi asked before performing his song Ekiroto in which he anticipates a day when Dr Besigye will share a cup of tea with his political opponent President Museveni and the duo laugh off some of their bitterness and excesses. He also dreams of a day when Mufti Shaban Mubajje and Supreme Mufti Zubair Kayongo will resolve their differences as well as Pastor Robert Kayanja and Pastor Martin Ssempa preaching alongside one another. He gave an example of himself for having mended ties with his former nemesis Jose Chameleone. It should be noted, however, that Bobi Wine is still enemies with Bebe Cool, who is also at loggerheads with Chameleone.
Bobi Wine came on stage at 10.30pm to a supportive, applauding crowd. “I would like to thank you for sparing time to spend time and your money to be with me here,” Bobi Wine said as he kicked off his two hour musical experience within which he had sober messages to share.
The singer announced that he is making 10 years since he first registered a hit song, Akagoma in 2002 and he went on to musically walk fans through the journey, from songs like Bam Bam, Kabaseke, Wendi, Kiwani, Kadingo in which he reminds people to keep sanitation standards high for a healthier life, then Mazi Mawanvu among other songs.
He had a message for some of his guests. “I call on our leaders to work together for the good of this country so that our generation can leave this country a better place than we found. Our children need to find it a better place,” he said after performing Ebibuuzo, a call that tackles the questionable events and unique happenings around us like homosexually, religious leaders using their positions to satisfy their selfish desires as well as natural calamities.
He admitted that he has achieved much in life but said he owes much of his success to a supportive friend, lover and partner, Barbie Kyagulanyi, his wife. “I would like to thank my wife and friend Barbie for standing by me through thick and thin. I dedicate this song to you,” he said and went on to perform Promise.
Also in the house was Bobi Wine’s first born called Solomon Kampala who waved and danced to every song done by his number one artiste. Several other artistes curtain-raised for Bobi Wine.
