When Ian Mbugua seemed brutal, she was motherly. Former Tusker Project Fame academy matron and teacher, Achieng Abura, also renown Kenyan singer has passed on.
Principle Achieng as she was popularly known in reality show's house was announced dead last night at Kenyatta National Hospital's private wing.
According to Daily Nation, the cause of her death is not yet clear but it is said the former Kora award winner suffered depression though kidney failure has been sighted as one of the causes for her death.
One of the issues that should have depressed her is her 23-year-old son who is ailing with sickle cells anaemia and a heart condition.
In one of her last Facebook posts, the fallen gospel diva said, “I have lost over 50 kgs in the last three Years. Everything is hanging and weak. Walking is a problem with pains all over. Doctor says I must add 30 kgs then lose it as I exercise and firm up. The irony of life. I was not even losing weight intentionally! I allowed life to get the better of me. Learn from my mistakes."
Born Lydia Achieng Abura, the singer came to the music scene in the early 90s with a gospel album “I believe”. She is recipient of the 2004 Best East African Artiste. She has four multi-genre gospel albums released between 1990 and 2002. In her lifetime, she served as a UNDP Goodwill ambassador.
She was a regular performer at Freedom Corner in Nairobi. One of her last stage deliveries was in April last year in commemoration of students who died during a terrorist attack at Garissa University.
