While many churches prefer resident choirs to play music their music, the Devine Destiny Gospel and Cultural Group, is discovering that just like the Word in the bible, all churches welcome gospel music.

According to Margaret Nsereko Nissimewe a member of the choir, the group which started more than ten years ago based at the New Deliverance Church on Salaama road, is now receiving more invitations to perform in other churches and because of its mix of music and culture, the invitations have been extended to birthday and graduation parties.

“We have been performed at the Deliverance Church Masindi, we have been to the Tabernacle Kasese, Victory Church in Ntungamo. All Saints Church Busia, Miracle Church Mbarara and we are now getting invitations to perform in birthday parties and graduations,” she said in interview last week.

She adds that despite the humble beginnings from which the group started off, the invitations have raised confidence in the group and it is now raising its strength because despite the small tokens of appreciation the group gets, the performances are beginning to add value to the group.

“We may be invited to a church and they provide the transport, meals and accommodation and we go to perform and return but you find someone offering to give say equipment for the group and this is helping us,” she says.

She adds that the group uses culture and gospel music because of Uganda’s rich unexplored cultural diversity some with hidden moral values which they expose through music, dance and drama.

“Members of the group come from different tribes and cultural backgrounds and we encourage each member to teach the group one or two of their traditional cultures which the group later takes up as a performance,” she says.

The devine destiny group is one of the best entertaining group in Uganda today. The group has toured and performed in several countries including neighbouring Kenya ,Tanzania, Rwanda. Here in Uganda the group is selling out on big occasions and political functions mixing both cultural and gospel is what they are doing in an amazing way. Never before has a group risen to fame with such cultural dances yet sending the gospel at the same time .This is the group to watch if you are any where in Uganda .Their leader Margaret Nsereko said "we are fulfilling the command of preaching the gospel yet entertaining the world at the same time". We are blessed to have talented members who are unique each in their own way ".The members are mostly young and vibrant and they believe that even the sky is not the limit to what they can do.
