Isaiah and I will "tear" the house down- Masekela

Hugh Masekela is in town for the Airtel Jazz Concert with Isaiah Katumwa.
The Jazz concert, that will also mark 20 years in the industry for Katumwa, will take place on Friday at The Kampala Serena Hotel. Hugh, during a press conference that was held on Tuesday, took some time off to preach to the journalists who were in attendance about patriotism. "I don't feel like I am in a foreign country.”
Uganda feels home, when I am in Africa I am home. You might take this country for granted but is blessed; the weather is awesome and so are its citizens," he said.

He added: "Although I have never shared a stage with my brother Isaiah, we sure are going to tear the house down."

Isaiah intimated that he will be celebrating the success of jazz music in Uganda. "They told me it would never be possible for jazz music to be appreciated in Uganda. I am celebrating 20 years of contributing the little I could to the music industry," he said.

Who's Hugh Masekela?

Hugh Ramopolo Masekela is a South African trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, composer, and singer. He was born in Kwa-Guqa Township, Witbank, South Africa on 4th April 1939. He began singing and playing piano as a child.

At age 14, after seeing the film Young Man with a Horn (in which Kirk Douglas plays a character modeled after American jazz cornetist Bix Beiderbecke), he took up playing the trumpet.

His first trumpet was given to him by Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, the anti-apartheid chaplain at St. Peter's Secondary School.

As an all-rounder, some of his achievements include a Doctor of Music (honoris causa) from Rhodes University (2015), an Honorary Doctorate in Music (2014) from University of York, an African Music Legend award at the 2007 Ghana Music Awards as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award during the 2005 Channel O Music Video Awards.
