Jackie Akello is that mysterious artiste who has previously played second fiddle to more established artistes such as Lilian Mbabazi. She was a guest performer at the last edition of Blankets and Wine and has appeared in several commercials and videos as well as graced other stages. Somehow people hardly put a name to her face. Well, that was the main reason the songstress decided to ‘unveil’ at Pyramids Casino last Saturday.

By 6pm, the venue was full of revelers ready to dance to the tunes of the diva.

The acapella group Kawa, Kenneth Mugabi of the Naki fame warmed the crowd until 9:30 pm when Akello hit the stage with Cung (let’s stand). Cung is a dedication to the strong African women who keep their heads high irrespective of what weighs them down.

Her backup singers, dressed in African fabric made the show more colourful.
More songs such as Amari, Wan Wailobo and Yang, a song about games African children enjoy followed while Mizizi Ensemble dancers showcased skills that left revelers mesmerized.
She crowned the evening with her famous Apwoyo song.
Other artistes who showed Akello support included Mo-roots, Levixone – with whom they performed Samanya, Sandra Ssubi, Michael Ross, Saba Saba and Solome among others.
Akello promises that this was just a genesis of the many things to come, more shows and more projects. With an intent to promote the African woman, Akello has packaged her music to be conversational.
