The 20-year-old student of Kyambogo University was second runner up in Miss Tourism Buganda region

There were two things that were evident about Patricia Ntale Babirye whenever she walked on stage during the Miss Tourism finale held at Kampala Serena Hotel gardens last Saturday; She was confident and graceful.

When it came for the question and answer sessions, Babirye was on point with her responses.

It was, therefore, no surprise that she was officially crowned Miss Tourism 2014/15. The 20-year-old could not hide her excitement, beaming from ear to ear as the crown was being placed on her head by Babra Harriet Nakitto, the outgoing Miss Tourism 2013/14, and Vice President Edward Ssekandi, the chief guest of the night.

Babirye says she will market Uganda’s tourism potential to the world.

“I will focus on various aspects including cultural development in the country,” she said shortly after being crowned.
Babirye beat 26 other girls who were representing nine regions to the crown.

Roberta Jean Marie Magoba, 18, from Busoga was crowned as First Runner up, while Norah Atim, 21, from the Northern region was second runner up.

Babirye was awarded an official prize of car, a Toyota Rav4, at the event. She is expected to market Uganda’s tourism potential both domestically and internationally by showcasing her diverse and rich tourism potential. She is charged with representing Uganda at this year’s Miss Tourism International, which will be held in Malaysia in December.

The 20-year-old twin is a second year student at Kyambogo University studying Administrative and Secretarial science.
VP Ssekandi said the tourism sector is the number one foreign exchange earner for the country, encouraged Miss Tourism to represent the country well.
