December is a crazy month with many lavish end-of-year parties which include Blankets and Wine, Pop Bottles, All white party, black and white party, among others. At many of these events, socialites compete to show off their financial muscle. One event that has stood out is the Rich gang party by South Africa-based Ugandans Ivan Ssemwanga, Lawrence Kiyingi (King Lawrence) and Eddie Kyeyune (Ed Cheune).

The trio held their party in style at Liquid Silk a day before Christmas Eve. With entry fee at Shs50,000, the organisers thought that would limit numbers but they seem to have got it wrong because the club was almost full to capacity by 1am.

Ivan, Lawrence and Cheune entered the club at 1am. They made a grand entrance with a lead police patrol car and gave a few interviews before heading to the VIP area.

Elvis Ssekyanzi, the proprietor of Liquid Silk made announcements about the programme of the night before handing over to Ivan who flagged off the open bar. However, Uganda Breweries products were the only drinks on the house since they were one of the sponsors. Left with no other option, guests settled for Red and Gold Label, Guinness, Tusker, Rwenzori water and coke products all night long.

There was disappointment from the crowd when Elvis announced that there would be no money thrown around for security reasons. That was one of the reasons for some revellers’ attendance. It was only Sheebah and Irene Ntale who got Shs50,000, Shs20,000 and Shs10,000 notes from the hosts during their performance.

“I am not an artiste and neither am I a comedian but people love me,” Ivan said to a group of journalists as he walked around the club greeting party-goers.
