You never realise how multi-national Uganda is until you sit in a room with hundreds of Congolese and the choir on stage are singing body-shaking Lingala and Swahili. That was the sound that raved at Mwatshy’s Step 2 Rafiki DVD launch at Nsambya Sharing Hall last weekend.
He chose his location quite carefully, staging close to where several Congolese have settled in Kampala. For two days - Friday and Sunday; a list of choir, including Revelation Band, Dave Voice, Light Music Stars, Trumpet Music Band, New Jerusalem Choir and Upendo International Mass Choir, brought the house down with Lingala vibes.

Among the major highlights of the night was Amani Malengora’s Tewali Mukwano Asinga, which had incredible dance tunes. The waist-grinding dance moves were pulled in praise and worship of God and the hall turned into a mad house, dancing like King David did for Christ.
When Mwatshy hit the stage, the band strum life out of their instruments, stroking them to produce amazing sound. Mwatshy on bass, David Pragmo and Robert Katembo on keys, Mpenzi as lead guitar, Henry on rhythm guitar and Steven Camiille on drums; Nsambya was a testimony of practice in music. This was followed by beautiful vocal backup by Hortence, Sylvie and Katembo.

While he played minimal Lingala, Mwatshy brought a worship sound comparable to those popular bands such as Hillsong for quality. The Watoto Church-bred artiste testified about hard times in his life, thanking God for a breakthrough, and grace that got him to launch. He encouraged his audience to trust God and stay persistent.
The concert had a “save the children from malaria” charity benefit.
