Revellers dance to music, munch roasts and laugh to jokes at eighth Roast & Rhyme edition
It is said that Ugandans only need an excuse to go out and have a good time at a party. Yesterday, Roast & Rhyme gave partygoers a good reason to enjoy performances from crooner Jamal Wasswa, Luga-flow rapper Feffe Bus, veteran singer Chagga and hip-hop artiste The Mith.
The sun kept shinning, perfect to keep revellers making their way into the Jahazi Pier outer to find their way on its turf where they sat, popped bottles and enjoyed some roasts as they watched and enjoyed stage deliveries at Kampala's top outdoor event, now in its eighth edition running.
Organisers Swangz Avenue pulled every plug to make sure that security was at its best yet politely so. This should have been a precursor to what to expect at their big do as the production house hosts music lovers to their 10-year celebrations at Lugogo Cricket Oval. Comedians Madrat & Chicco tickled the audience with jokes that satirised social life. The dose of humour left some ladies in stitches, leading them to reach out for their napkins as their eyes mystified to the comedians' expressive wit.
One of the night's highlights was Chagga's stage performance, days after being released from the coolers in Luweero. His songs from back in the day, like Birungi, Kabite and Jangu Eno still rung a bell among fans. When he called on Jose Chameleone to join him on stage, to do Tobesiga, the audience roared in support for the once-musical duo that delivered collaborations as members of the Leone Island Music Empire. Jamal Wasswa picked on the tempo and got many revellers on their feet to sing-along to his music that ranges across genres. Before he did Sooka Osabe, he called on his friend and comedian, Salvador, onto stage to sing the song.
True to his trade, Salvador used his stage time to showcase his ragamuffin side and only occasionally remembered to sing a few lines of the song. Feffe Buss was a darling too, as he geared the audience into an energetic dance and sing-along session to his popular songs that are laced with catchy lyrics and rap.
The self-styled 'smallest rapper' interjected his songs with free-style sessions that quenched fans with some ropy and tickling lines that did well to raise the temple of the evening.
