The Kakira Nile Gold Polo set for November

The biggest exodus of party goers from Kampala will be on early next month, destination being Kakira for the Nile Gold Polo Classic. The annual Polo event was launched this morning in a press conference at the Madhvani Pavilion, UMA show ground Lugogo by the co-founder and Kakira Polo Club member Hrishi Madhvani flanked by representative from sponsors of this year’s event.

The fifth KNPC is slated for the 8th -9th November. Four Polo teams will tussle it out for the top spot on the country’s only polo ground at Kakira.

Polo which is one of the world’s oldest team sports has been played in Uganda for the past eight years after Kakira Polo club was launched. The club is made up of all amateur players. The Polo classic has been held every year for the past five years at the Kakira grounds and the usually two day event has risen to become an important part of the social calendar attracting a section of the expatriate community and Ugandans alike.

This year’s event promises the usual thrilling action on the field with participating players jetting in from a number of countries including Switzerland, Barbados and Kenya. But he also pointed out there is the glamour and pomp that is associated with Polo events. “There is the dressing up and the socialising,” said Madhvani. There will also be performances by a number of artists including Myko Ouma.

Access to the venue will be Ushs80,000 per head for both days of the tournament but that excludes the annual Polo Ball which is will require one who wishes to attend to pay an extra Ushs120,000 for the ball ticket. The Polo Ball is slated for the evening of Saturday the 8th of November.
