The Kansoul to rock Blankets & Wine
Madtraxx, Mejja and Kid Kora have created a formidable partnership that has introduced a new style of music to East Africa. The three will perform at the Tusker Malt Lager-sponsored Blankets and Wine fete in Kampala tomorrow. We caught up with them for a quick chat and below are the excerpts.
What does “The Kansoul” mean?
The Kansoul means the coming together of creativity.
You all have a following as solo artistes. What informed your decision to join forces?
We have been good friends for a long time, so one day, we were all in the studio at the same time and decided to do a song. We did and the reception was overwhelming and we decided to keep making hits together.
What style of music describes The Kansoul’s genre?
We are yet to find a genre. We believe creativity cannot be locked up in a box. We don’t have one style of genre that we follow. We do what we like and enjoy at that time, it could be Regga, afro fusion, basically everything.
Are you still pursuing your solo careers?
Yes we are. The Kansoul is not a group, we might look like one but we are more of a collaborative effort, just like when Mase was with Diddy, they formed Bad Boys, so yes we have our own projects that will soon be released.
The Song, Nyongwa, is a big hit in Uganda. What was the inspiration behind this song?
Hahaha, the inspiration came from haters. They thought we couldn’t do a dancehall track and we got mean tweets and turned it into a song, so that was for them. We are glad Uganda loves it.
You will be performing in Kampala as a group for the first time, what should Ugandans expect?
A lot of energy, fun and an electrifying performance by the three of us.
If you were to do a collabo with a Ugandan artiste, who would it be and why?
The list is endless, Uganda is blessed with a lot of great artistes, including Bebe cool, Jose Chameleone, Juliana , Cindy, Eddy Kenzo and Bobi Wine but if we were to pick one, it would have to be Jackie Chandiru. We like her style of music and the fusion of the two would be great.
