Anita Beryl: venturing into bridal wear

Anita Beryl makes both bridal and ordinary wear. Even her couture is designed so that it can be worn off the catwalk. Photos by Abubaker Lubowa.

On December 6, Anita Beryl will mark five years in the fashion designing trade. “It has been five solid years,” she says, cheerfully.

Her trade mark is the practicability of her clothes, which come with flare and glamour.

Her latest collection showcased white pieces with busy patterns, clean cut little dresses in velvet fabrics and some blue and pink chic pieces.

She says the collection was inspired first by the theme she was given, Glamour on Fleek, but mainly by a sofa collection whose richness in fabric and colour fascinated her.

The finer details of Beryl Qouture

We caught up with designer, Anita Beryl to discuss to tell us more about what Beryl Qouture has to offer.

Please introduce yourself.
My name is Anita Beryl. I’m a fashion designer. I have been designing for five years now. On December 6, I will be hosting an anniversary event.

What kind of clothes does Beryl by Anita make?
Elegant evening wear, bridal wear and now men’s wear too. The kind of clothes we create are fun, and timeless, a dress from BQ can go from office to a party with just a change of accessories. Our clothes are created to complement a woman’s beauty and shape.

How do you manage to focus on bridal as well as ordinary wear?
I’m a open-minded person and I think I carry that into my career as well. When I sit down to design, I don’t restrict my mind to a certain category. I look more at the client that I’m designing for than the season or category of clothes.

It helps me easily come up with designs that are fun and easy for almost anyone to wear to several places. Secondly, I look at real life when I’m designing. I start from myself, I look at places I go to, and events I attend and create relevant clothes.

What was the inspiration behind this particular collection?
This was a glamorous collection; the details, and fabric used was all very expensive. The greatest inspiration for these designs came from a sofa set display I saw a while back when I was out shopping.

It had all these soft colours, and different fabrics, for both the cushions and the throw pillows, with this colourful velvety flower arrangement.

The outfits had different fabric types, the colours were unexpected. Yet, they complemented each other quite well and I wanted the garments to give one a light feeling of sophistication, but remain simple, elegant, and practical.
