Juliana Okori, a fashion teacher and designer at the Kampala International School showcased at this month’s Fashion Runway fashion show. The showcase, whose theme was flashy with flair, lived up to the tag, as Okori went big on colour and quite elaborate on design.

Comprising dress tops and long flowery dresses rich in colour and print, Okori said they could be worn even off the runway, particularly the tops that were matched with tights. Okori says that she intended to design clothes that a girl could wear and feel both beautiful and feminine.

About Juliana Okori
The fashion teacher, who is an Industrial Arts and Design graduate from Makerere University, says she intended to show the artistic view of her fashion sense, with her Flash and Flair collection. The one thing I noticed was how she blended the African fabric with other materials like chiffon to create very eye-catching essembles.

Okori, who runs the Kori House Of Couture and Design, has been in the fashion business for quite some time, and first picked interest while in her Senior Three. “I took part in a school pageant and designed the clothes that I wore in the contest,” she says. The 25-year-old, who deals in a wide range of fashion creation from the African prints to the Western designs, also creates designs for individuals, particularly celebrities.

“I happen to be the one behind the creations worn by the male members of the Qwela Band during their recent performance at Serena Hotel, Kampala. She adds that she mainly deals in bridal wear, especially the dresses for the matrons and maids.
• She was born on November 19, 1988, to the late Eng. Anthony Okori and Hellen Okori.
• She also works with the Girl Child Initiative as a role model speaker.
