What you need to know:

wedding thoughts. The bridal trends evolve along with the rest of the fashion world. Fashion designer, Brenda Maraka got working on what she predicts will be the sought after wedding gowns.

Brenda Maraka discloses the thoughts behind her latest collection, and more on what she thinks the 2015 bride will look like.

Is this new collection an insight into what brides will be wearing in 2015?
Yes. The gowns I have created are going to be popular especially among the brides who love ease and may also not want to change to another dress as has been the general trend.
Most brides I have created gowns for in the past have asked for light weight dresses. And so I decided to create not just light dresses but super lightweight gowns. I have created a dress that someone can move around in very easily and be able to dance and enjoy themselves without being held back by the weight of the dress.

Most of the gowns are body hugging and have off shoulders. Do you believe today’s bride is becoming bolder and more diverse?
Definitely brides are more bolder and diverse and are not afraid to show off their shapes. Ugandan women have beautiful shapes and the body hugging dress is one of the great ways to show it off without being indecent.

Where can I wear the little white dresses in the collection?
The little dresses are perfect for a daytime outing with friends like lunch. Or, to a cocktail party and to church. You can also wear them for a civil wedding.

Some of the pieces are snow white and yet we have seen brides in the past opt for other shades like pink and brown. Is the traditional white dress making a comeback?
From experience even my most liberal clients tend to still have a touch of conservatism in them or their family are conservative or the church they are wedding from has consecutive rules so we have created pieces that fit the general demand. But I choose to give the gowns a touch of African with the kikoyi in shades of green so one can still pull off a unique look.

Aside from the aisle, where else can one rock these pieces?
To a red carpet event like awards shows and movie premieres.

Last week, fashion designer Brenda Maraka unveiled her 2015 Thoughts and Things bridal collection. It was before a few family and friends who gathered at the Purim Festival at the source of the Nile in Jinja.
The pieces comprised of snow white gowns that featured body hugging silhouettes, and a few sassy little dresses the designer explained were all for bridal wear purposes. Many of the gowns seemed light, something that many brides could find helpful. There were also a few gowns in African prints for the bride that wants to try out something out of the ordinary.
