The love affair between Uganda and Rwanda has now beamed into the diaspora.

Ugandans in North America under their umbrella body, UNAA Causes have stretched their influence to East Africa, attracting the Miss Rwanda franchise ahead of their Fashion Weekend event in Washington DC from August 31 to September 3.

The event organisers have already confirmed performances from Nigerian singer Rudeboy of the defunct PSquare duo and now revellers will see a fashion side with top Ugandan designers, models, agents as well as East African beauty queens including; Miss Rwanda, Tanzania and Miss Uganda.

UNAA Causes CEO, David Muwanga confirmed the participation of Miss Rwanda, adding that the event provides an opportunity for Uganda and Rwanda to contribute towards promoting tourism, fashion and culture in East Africa.

“We are excited to be joined by Miss Rwanda. Uganda has always enjoyed a good relationship with our brothers and sisters in Rwanda. They will be participating in our fashion weekend where we expect to make a statement as East Africa to the rest of the world. Miss Uganda is already our partner and they will be with us in DC as well,” Muwanga said.

Kagame Ishimwe Dieudonne, the founder and Managing Director of Rwanda Inspiration Backup, the company responsible for Miss Rwanda confirmed that 2018 pageant winner Liliane Iradukunda will represent the franchise in Washington DC.

“The mission of Miss Rwanda encompasses the promotion of cultural tourism and fostering great ambassadors for our country. So, it’s always a pleasure for us to be part of events that are in line with our mission and give us an opportunity to represent our country in various aspects,” Ishimwe said.

“The event is an opportunity to showcase what Rwanda’s fashion and beauty scene has achieved and what other countries have to offer. It also offers an important opportunity to reflect on where we are as a bloc and learn from each other and others,” Muwanga added.
