In Summary

The work of the only Ugandan showcasing her works elicited a rousing applause at the Swahili fashion week held between December 6 and 9.

Yet the face was unfamiliar, not one of those we have become accustomed to seeing when fashion design in the country is mentioned. She is Martha Jabo, a fresh Makerere University Industrial Arts and Design graduate who seems dead set on making a name for the contemporary heritage designs she dedicates her time to.

“I aim for the high end customer. My clothes are fashion forward but also practical,” she says.

If you are interested in something new, something bold in fashion then Jabo may be your girl. Here are some of the pieces she showcased at the Swahili fashion week.
