In Summary

Although it is not an accessory many keep in their wardrobe, the bow tie is one that can be worn to various events.

I simply love the way the ever changing fashion trends can create such a big variety to our wardrobes. From the maxi skirts and dresses to the pleated skirt, next in tow is the bow tie. From time immemorial, bow ties have been associated with intellectuals, that is professors and nerds, as well as circus ring masters.

In the past it was often reserved for high class events. It was also reserved for the men and usually worn by the older generation. However, lately, the accessory is not only worn by both the young and old, but also used to rock the casual look and alternatively be worn to the club.

The bow tie evokes a sense of sophistication and old school style. Worn with a suit or even just a button-down shirt, a bow tie has become the modern man’s quick accessory. Perfect for a black-tie affair or even a cocktail party, they come in different styles to fit the needs of any man of any age. Alternating one’s tie with different suit jackets, trousers and button-down shirts for different, unique looks, is arguably the safest way to rock the bow tie.

For men
One also does not have to stick to the rules when they choose to wear a bow tie. For a cocktail party or more dressed-up occasion, pick one that turns heads. Match it with the shirt for a more refined look.
One can choose to step away from the traditional way of wearing the bow tie and instead wear it with rolled shirt sleeves or don a leather jacket instead of a suit. If you are the trendy type, wear it with a slim-cut tailored suit, a cable crew neck, or a spring ensemble of a blazer, checked shirt and tailored shorts. Complete the look with a cute pair of moccasins.
The bow tie also can be spiced up by wearing it with suspenders, and sweaters.

For women
It would cause no harm to borrow a few items from your man’s wardrobe. From pants and high waist skirts to dresses and shorts, one has a variety of options to choose from. One does not need to strain with getting this look right. For instance, you can complete your shorts and shirt look with a studded bow tie and boyfriend blazer. You can also wear the bow tie with your two piece suit to work.
Alternatively, you can choose to colour pop your outfit with the bow tie, especially if the outfit is neutral.
