City businessman Sudhir Ruparelia’s daughter Sheena and her husband Jay Sakaria held a lavish reception at Speke Resort in Munyonyo on Saturday, as a climax to their wedding celebrations that have spanned two continents.
The lovebirds first held two ceremonies at the exclusive Savoy and Dorchester Hotels in London, hotels that are patronised by international celebrities, the wealthy and royalty.
The Munyonyo black tie affair was a culmination of week-long events that included a beer festival on Tuesday and a give-away at the Ruparelia mansion on Friday night.

The guests came from over 30 countries, including family, friends and business associates.
Foreign Affairs Minister Sam Kuteesa in his speech said Sudhir, a self-made man is an example of the opportunities that Uganda has to offer.

He also lauded Sudhir for integrating himself in Uganda, his country of birth, despite having Asian origin.
“Sudhir has integrated himself in the Ugandan society more than any other Asian. We shall be there for him as he has been there for us,” he said in reference to the midweek

“When the going gets tough, the tough get going,” he said before congratulating the young couple on the bold step of marriage because it is what ensures family continuity.
Sudhir on his part counselled the couple to overcome the weather and storm of marriage and live happily together through their lives.

“Jyostna and I have been married for nearly 40 years. I don’t know how we lasted this long. She has been good, but you know men ...” he said drawing cheers from the guests.
He also had a practical joke when he called Jay to give him a present of a book about how to understand a woman. It was a huge metre long book with probably 100,000 pages.

“That is part one, there are nine others I will give you.” Then he gave Sheena a book about how to understand men. It was a thin volume, only a couple of pages.
“That is all,” he said provoking more cheers from the audience.
Rajiv the brother of the bride, who was decked in a kanzu said the bride and groom have known each other since they were five and six years old and he knew they were meant for each other, even during the few times when they would fight.

The emcee of the evening comedian Patrick Salvado Idringi peppered the ceremony with jokes while a female band from Russia provided the entertainment performing a mixture of Indian and pop songs.
