Dating: I must be losing my touch
I have clearly forgotten how to do my thing! Not what you are thinking, you filthy minded human, I mean the thing of talking to a lady in a gentlemanly way such that she sees your point of view to totally benefit her, and she totally agrees with everything you say.
This should have been fairly easy, and that’s what underlines my serious state of deterioration; we were introduced, we were left alone, and everything was in my favour. It was at a drink-up, so there was alcohol. And you know how alcohol can make people loosen up. By the time I met this one, she was still a little tipsy, and from the looks, planned to infuse more alcohol into her bloodstream. I don’t mean to say I like them drunk, but, I mean, if she is willing to make it easier for me, why on earth would I have a problem with that?! Anyway, Rose was drinking some tall cocktail. In a generous mood, she asked me to try it, and I did, and I liked it, so I asked for the same. And we got talking, and I played the line of taking it easy. I had all night to do my magic, so there was no point in rushing.
An hour later, I decided it was time to turn on the charm, and this was motivated by the way her name had changed from Rose to Rosie. I started asking some personal questions, groundwork for my attack. She responded well, she even told me she had broken up with her guy about three months back. That was excellent. Not too long ago to have become a hard case of “single woman”, just in time for her not to be looking to get into anything permanent. No, I wasn’t looking for anything permanent either. So, I attacked. I am not going to tell you what I told her, I feel embarrassed by it myself, but it didn’t work, in fact, it spoilt everything. She just laughed, shook her pretty head in disbelief, and asked me, “really? Is that it?” And dumbly, I tried to do damage control, by doing more damage. And she laughed even more, and walked away. I have had girls walking away from me before, but not in that fashion.
Thinking she had misunderstood me or probably not heard me clearly, I went after her. And then she gave me an education, saying, “Eugene, you are one of the few people I have ever made it easy for. But you guys just don’t know when you’ve got something good going on. For an hour, everything was nice, all you had to do was continue playing it cool, and who knows how the night would have ended. But that stunt you pulled, that is one of the lamest things I have ever witnessed. That was the weakest line I have ever heard.” And she walked off again. This time I didn’t follow her. I don’t think a rejection could ever be clearer than that.
