Dating: The forbidden step
Seriously, some people need to take time and think about things they do. There is this man I know who is dating the girl that his buddy was dating. Yeah, I know it happens quite often, I have even seen cases where a man marries a girl his brother was dating, but to me, it is in the same league, and those fellas that do that need to just stop. It is not funny, it is not amusing at all, in fact, it is plain stupid and very annoying to me.
There is a certain protocol that needs to be followed here; option one is to totally avoid the girl, but if that fails, give it some time man. Let them break up of their own accord, and give them time to move on. Everything else is not recommended.
This man in particular is a piece of work. I guess While David and Tina were still dating, Tony was a good friend to both. When David went to study, for just six months, Tony decided he wanted to be more of a friend to Tina, and started causing problems. The man started hitting on Tina, though I think it might even have started even earlier, just that no one was really paying any attention.
With time, rumours started flying around that Tina was seeing some other man. And when David came back, he certainly wasn’t happy with Tina especially since she seemed so cool about the accusations. Tony wasn’t of much help here, since he was simultaneously David’s best friend, and also his competitor. Soon, David figured this out and asked Tony about it. But Tony told him to relax, it was the girl’s decision-who she wanted to go with, and even used the words “May the best man win”… totally shameless! David was soon leaving for studies again, anyway, so he left. Maybe it was the loneliness or just female nature, but before long, Tina and Tony were tight, as thick as thieves, and she didn’t bother to hide it anymore. This time round, when David came back, there was no need to ask about anything because everything was clear; Tina had moved on, but she hadn’t bothered to even break up with David first.
If I had been in David’s shoes, I would have ceased being friends with Tony and Tina, but David is obviously a more understanding person than I am. He continued being friends with both, and they continued hanging out together, only that this time, Tina was with Tony, and she would leave with him every day.
David didn’t like it, and no one else in the group liked it but they kept their cool, it wasn’t their decision to make. David and Tony had this cool civility between them, but after some beers, then their true selves would come out. David would remind Tony how foolish he was to go out with Tina, and Tony would tell David that he was weak, he had lost the girl.
And then, after a few more beers, both would turn on the girl and agree on how foolish she was. The language would be more colourful than I am putting it here. Interestingly enough, Tina seemed to have no problem with this, not even when the men started getting to details. But to me, the lowest of them was Tony. You just don’t do that! It messes up everything, and people stop taking you seriously. There are way too many women in the world for two friends to share one.
