FOURTH DIMENSION: Radical changes are needed

The current muck exposed from the corruption trail in the nation seems to suggest a need for a radical change in the systems and structure of government.
This story in the Bible records a radical change in the systems and structure of government of the nation of Israel. (1Samuel 16:1-4)The Lord said to Samuel, “How long do you intend to mourn for Saul? I have rejected him as king over Israel. Fill your horn with olive oil and go! I am sending you to Jesse in Bethlehem, for I have selected a king for myself from among his sons.” Samuel replied, “How can I go? Saul will hear about it and kill me!” But the Lord said, “Take a heifer with you and say, ‘I have come to sacrifice to the Lord .’Then invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what you should do. You will anoint for me the one I point out to you.” Samuel did what the Lord told him.
King Saul had earned himself the displeasure of God and the nation was going down the drain. Its initial victories were no longer forthcoming. Saul had failed to fulfill his God given mandate.
While King Saul had been appointed through popular vote, God decided to have his veto count on the issues that affected the nation. The popular system was to be replaced by the God appointed system. The replacement was to come by a God orchestrated series of events that would set up the leader as the appropriate leader. That is what happened between Saul and David. It was 20 years before this change was effected.
Without suggesting a top change like the text indicates, since I am not God, I want to think that there is need to change the system of appointment of ministers and permanent secretaries. It is not enough to pin point ministers and other office bearers in the current financial chaos we are experiencing as a nation. We must answer the question of which pond we are fishing from.
You never catch whales in Lake Victoria. The best to catch in Lake Victoria is Nile perch. Could we be placing expectations of a whale from a Nile perch?
When David became king, he changed the structure of government. He insisted on building his leadership team based on skills and integrity. He appointed skilled and proven men to head his Defense ministry. We never hear of men appointed to office without prior proof of their abilities to produce desired results.
Those who qualify for ministry leadership should be evident to the whole nation before they ever get to the appointments committee. By now we should have a shadow cabinet and a shadow list of permanent secretaries that is generally accepted while awaiting the opportune time of appointment.
We need to stop mourning over the losses made in the past and start building a new structure that will take us higher than where we are. If we want to fly, we must board a plane; not a car.
