Kinetic Management in conjunction with Monitor Publications launched a five-aside football tournament for top bars around Kampala last Tuesday.
The tourney was announced at Lugogo Hockey Grounds, which will host the games dubbed 5 Star Fridays that start on April 18. It will run for eight weeks, with the winner taking a cash prize of Shs3m.

Teams will mainly be made up of bar patrons and each must field a lady and not more than one professional footballer.
Mr Bernard Mukasa the Chief Executive Officer of Hope Sports Club, one of the organisers, said the purpose of the tournament is to bridge the gap between football and entertainment.

5 Star Fridays just like the popular Friday Night Lights (FNL) basketball tournament is run by Kinetic.

The bars that have confirmed so far include Zone 7, Panamera, Route 256, Fat Boyz, Asylum, Cayenne, Just Kicking and Legends. Some were yet to register by press time.
“I will also take part in the tournament as I will be there representing my favourite bar Zone 7,” said Mukasa during the press conference.

He said that 5 Star Fridays will also have individual challenges like dribbling the ball, where fans will win prizes and there will also be artiste performances.
Entrance fee will be Shs5,000 and Shs30,000 for V.I.P.
Monitor Publications is the media partner of the tournament under Sqoop magazine, Score magazine and KFM.

“People should listen to KFM and read Daily Monitor to win tickets to be part of the fun that will be at 5 Star Fridays,” Aaron Aguma the Marketing Manager at Monitor Publications said during the launch. Other sponsors include NTV, Silk Events and SMS Media.
