Akashaka, emerged champions of the 5 Star Friday inter-bar soccer tournament after beating Casablance 6-5 in a tightly contested five-aside game.

They won a cash prize of Shs3m but left fans at the Lugogo Astro Turf wondering where the after party would be as unlike all other contenders, Akashaka has no physical address. It turned out they are a collective of “bar hoppers.” Casabalanca took a Shs1m cash prize for coming second.

18 bars participated in the tournament which ran for a period of eight weeks. There was a lot of fun including exhibition games, one between a select Uganda Cranes side and Hope FC (theorganisers) that ended 4-4.

Another exhibition game was between the NTV Sports Bar crew and sportmen of other disciplines like tennis, rubgy, basketball and cricket. The game ended 2-1.
Entertainment was from artistes Young Mulo, Toniks and Rabadaba.

The tournament was sponsored by Monitor Publications’ Sqoop magazine, Score, KFM, plus Silk Events M-Idea and SMS Media. It was organised by Kinetic Management Group and Hope FC. There will be a second season next year.
