Blankets & Wine: A perfect family day out

Last Sunday, music, wine, fashion and art got mixed in the quarterly picnic gathering, Blankets & Wine held at the Uganda Museum, Kampala. The rare sunny day set the perfect backdrop for a colourful special edition of the event. Kampala socialites, corporates and youthful girls (at the rate at which they were taking selfies, they sure attended this fete to let the cyber world know how ‘cool’ they are) were served with fine food, laid back music, cakes and wine.

Music lovers were treated to a series of refreshing performances from Uganda’s emerging musical talents, including Ruyonga, guitar maestro, Myko Ouma and saxophonist Brian Mugenyi.

This season’s event premiered on a family picnic setup. This is the reason most parents brought their children to enjoy a relaxing Sunday afternoon.
Events changed when the only entertainment for children (a bouncing castle) was no longer fun. The children were tired, bored and sleepy.

By 8pm, slightly tipsy parents were still insisting on enjoying the last song by Kenya’s Just A Band (the guest performers who wowed the crowd with their mind blowing house/funk and disco instrumentals).

The Tusker-sponsored event has redefined the Ugandan concert and musical experience. This season’s event was themed on East Africa’s premier music experience designed to showcase outstanding musicians in the emerging genres of afro-based music.
