A sight of young girls and boys donning the latest fashion was eye catching at the 5th annual Pyem Myel (youth dance) competition, that was held at the Taks Art Centre Gulu on Saturday.
The event was also a moment that brought together most holidays makers, perhaps a time most said goodbye to their friends as the holiday climaxed over the weekend.
The annual youth dance competition was organised by Splendid Uganda and sponsored by Pie Avenue Five. It aims at showcasing the dance skills of the youth in the once war-ravaged Northern Uganda.
This year’s dance competition attracted six dance groups, notably Luo Revolution, Luo Galaxy, IDG, Da Light Ray, Victim, and CSK the only ladies team among the dance groups.
At about 8:00 pm, the mood at Taks Art Centre went wild as revellers cheered, ululated in chorus to the acrobatic, break dances and traditional dances staged by the Luo Galaxy whose performances were outstanding.
Despite the rain that showered the place and threatened the event, fans were never bothered as they cheered their favorite dancers.
After a first round of performances, it was time for the judges to make decisions, to eliminate, Victim and IDG, were first on the list to be eliminated from the competition leaving four groups craving for the Shs1m cash reward for the first runner up.
Although the second round had been a cheerful moment, fans were sent aback with the judge’s decision to eliminate Luo Galaxy. Revellers booed the judges as others yelled out loudly accusing the judges of siding with CSK who faced off with Luo Revolution in the final round.
In the final round that was competitive, the three judges unanimously announced Luo revolution as the winner of this year’s competition outsmarting the only female group CSK.
