If you are healthy, go find work

One day I was chatting with a former Cabinet minister about his lessons in life that he would pass on to a younger fellow like me. His response?
“You see, I cannot just share the lesson but I can instead tell you the different experiences I have had in my life and how I handled them,” he responded.
“For example,” he continued, “when I was in Primary Five, my father died and my school fees was gone. I had to find answers. I had to make the money to go to school. So I thought to myself, well, God gave me hands, legs and a brain, what can I do? I would go to people’s homes and explain how I am ready to do anything for them in order to get school fees. I managed,” he concluded.
Talking about managing, this is a professor. So, go figure.
“But you know,” he started laughing and then added; “recently, a very able bodied man possibly in his 20s came to my office seeking for financial support to go to school.” He expected me to just pull out a cheque book and give him the money. No way. He can find work,” he concluded with another bout of laughter.
From the outside, you may think the former minister is just being stingy and unrealistic with money. But when you think a little deeply about it, you discover he has a great point -self-reliance. When I grew up, seeing grown up men and women who are able-bodied strolling on the street begging started bothering me.

Throw out lazy attitude
As for you, it may not be school fees and yet somehow you are basing all your livelihood on other people’s sweat and energy.
Of course if you are physically impaired, that is another matter. But if you are healthy, then, go and work.
You might say there are no jobs. But I say if you are hungry and self-driven enough, you will always find something to do that will create the cash.
How? Just ask by mentioning the value that you will offer. But still keep your mind open to do things that are not necessarily what you studied or know. You can learn a new craft. You might hear many rejections. All you need is just one “yes”. If you are healthy, go find work.
