Kimeria publishes book in Kenya, launches it in Uganda

For the first time, a book authored and published in Kenya was launched in Uganda. All book launches which have been taking place are mostly written and published in Uganda.

Ciku Kimeria, a Kenyan author, launched her novel titled Of Goats and Poisonous Orange in Kampala on Monday at the Femrite - Uganda Women Writers’ Association offices on Kiira Road, Kamwokya.

The launch took place during the association’s weekly Readers-Writers’ Club meet.

Of Goats and Poisonous Oranges is the first publication from Kimeria. The novel talks about a Kenyan mid-aged couple whose relationship is disturbed by so many factors.

The title of the book is derived from goats, which in Kenya represent marriage; they are given as dowry.

Poisonous oranges entails the negative consequences that always come up to spoil people’s marriages.
The story is about contemporary love, betrayal, greed, revenge and corruption. It is a fictional story set from the 1950s and the modern Kenya.

She got the story line from the life she lives and what she sees.

According to Kimeria, the reason it was launched in Uganda was because it targets African readers; the book was first published in December 2013 then reprinted in 2014.

Kimeria is a self-published author, she distributes her novel on Amazon create space.
The book costs Shs35,000 at Aristoc bookshop.
