Painting is one aspect of art that rides on creativity and requires passion, deep observation and assessment. And Ibrahim Kitimbo has proved this through his latest exhibition at AKA Gallery in Kampala.

Dubbed Colour Dominance, Kitimbo says the title was inspired by how the environment is composed of various colours ranging from green on flora to artificial materials. This is manifested through his painting Buganda Proud. The piece shows a banana plantation and the colours of green clearly exhibit the love Baganda have for matooke, their stable food.

Kitimbo says: “I painted it because I am thankful to God for the gift of nature he offered to earth. Most of my paintings are from my keen observation out there.”

Indeed, the pieces like Mother’s union and Introduction day prove that Kitimbo has a keen eye for spotting out unique elements in our daily life. The Mother’s union is a piece that shows women holding a meeting and the same colours used exhibit the uniform and smartness of women whereas Introduction day highlights the traditional Ugandan marriage.

Kitimbo also shares his relationship experience in a piece titled My date. “I used to date various girls before I got married but what I did in the piece was to show my struggles of seducing them by taking them out always to impress them,” he says.

He has other eye-catching pieces like Harvest – that shows fruits in a basket and Party Dress – attire that one is ready to hang out in a party. Kitimbo has many other pieces that anybody interested can find at the gallery even after the exhibition has ended.
