UNBS hosts Kampala Hash House Harriers

What you need to know:
The sole purpose of the run isn’t about who can finish first, but to socialise and have fun whilst exercising to keep fit. Real names aren’t even used. Each hasher has a nickname, given to them by the group.
The Kampala Hash House Harriers were last Monday hosted by the Uganda National Bureau of Statistics, to an evening of what one would describe as a hybrid of a mile run and pub crawl.
After an hour (or so) of hashing, or even walking, these group of hashers converged at Uganda Manufacturers Association for snacks, soft drinks, food, beer and entertainment.
The sole purpose of the run isn’t about who can finish first, but to socialise and have fun whilst exercising to keep fit. Real names aren’t even used. Each hasher has a nickname, given to them by the group.
Nick names like Buffalo Dung, Itchy Thighs, Sewage Hole, Forgery, are some of the queer but funny names. “Nicknames allow for anonymity,” Buffalo Dung who declined to reveal his real names said. “We are here to have fun, socialise and have a little exercise, not to talk about work or our children,” he added as he took a long sip of beer.
The run is dominated by mainly corporates and top city businessmen. One gets punished (by getting a nasty beer shower) for misbehaving while on the run. For example Buffalo Dung, who was accused of releasing an unpleasant fart, while on Port Bell Road got a serious beer shower of the evening.
Without being oblivious of cameras, some hashers teased and had a “zero-distance” dance with the entertainer of the evening, Jackie Chandiru. For UNBS that is making 25 years, this was a way of networking with decision makers in the business world, in a relaxed setting.
