Common Sense: Why do we put stock in the inconsequential?

Last week’s events in our Pearl of Africa would have had even the hardcore psychoanalysts wondering what the hell constitutes the composition of the average Ugandan!
So where can I start? How about the story of the young illiterate lady who swindled billions from a white man. What is odd is the fact that apparently people were lining up to pay her bail that was to the tune of Shs100m! Ask the same crowd to pay for a poor bloke with a hole in the heart needing a heart transplant, ASAP, to save their life and you will get a million and one excuses of how they are “broke” but will offer prayers for the lad!
As if that isn’t disturbing enough, Bad Black is already getting the VIP treatment being feted like she’s some Lady Gaga of sorts with TV interviews asking her who the father of her baby is… then the next day the so-called father calls her crazy for naming him as the father. Hold on, the madness hasn’t yet passed! She’s now a pastor! And you say the problem with Uganda is Museveni? Come on, it’s us Ugandans!
Then, we had the so-called Oil debates by our clowns (read, parliamentarians), now if ever there was a bunch of time wasters in our political echelons it’s that lot called parliamentrians!
They make a big fuss about how they are fighting for “our rights” concerning oil, then they end up passing the bill that had been fronted ages ago. So why the fuss about abandoning debates, posing for TV cameras and all that? And we have the likes of Lukyamuzi, Odongo Oto etc, talking about apparently “looking for signatures” to impeach the President!
I’m not done with the circus that is Uganda; The Cranes does us proud and wins the Cecafa trophy. That’s all good and trust Ugandans, they all got lost in the excitement forgetting to ask vital questions like; how come our Cranes excel where we expect them to but when we demand from them to raise the bar just a little (say, qualify for Africa Cup of Nations) it’s the same old story?
And since it’s the same old story, how come the management has remained the same since? Should we then as Ugandans expect our team never to ever raise the bar? If so, why then do we have to celebrate as though we have won the World Cup? Are we that sad a bunch that anything, be it the same old story, has us so excited!?
Just asking... when will the repair of the Kasubi tombs ever take place despite the billions donated to that process? Remember I’m just asking, hold your spears! Ugandans…sigh!
