Recently, the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association (Uwopa) of Uganda tasked the government to provide psychosocial support centres that can heal the community through counselling and rehabilitation programs.

Secretary Uwopa, Ms Judith Franca Akello who is also Woman Member of Parliament for Agago County, called for programmes that are geared towards helping the local community to cope positively with the effects of the long war in northern Uganda and the displacement.

She added that the government’s interventions in the northern reconstruction would be more useful if the psychosocial element is addressed.

“Traumatised people cannot make the use of the structures in place. Their minds should be settled so that they can make the use of the infrastructural development to live meaningful lives.”
