Hansel and Gretel witch hunters: Non-stop action

Hansel and Gretel witch hunters
Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton star in this heart- racing film as main characters Hansel and Gretel respectively. This is part of a string of Hollywood movies about witches that Hollywood has lined up this year. With this movie currently trending and showing at Cineplex Cinema, you can say vampires are out and witches are now the in thing. The plot is a rather a dark comic twist on the famous classical form from the brothers Grimm.

The story line sets off when our likeable siblings are abandoned in the middle of the forest by their father. While in search of food, they find themselves at the door steps of a gingerbread house and soon after the captives of the old witch that owns the place.

They soon realise that her magical powers and spells have no effect on them for apparent reason and this enables them to escape her reins after setting her a blaze of course. At this tender age, they decide to become witch hunters (guess you can say that’s what you get when you grow up without career guidance or parental oversight).

In this new found profession of theirs they manage to build up a reputation of spilling witches guts which soon leads to a small town of Augsburg where a series of child kidnappings have been linked to witches. From that point on it is all blood, gore, nonstop action and catchy one liners.

Gemma Arterton is not only beautiful but puts in a decent day’s work as Gretel. I am not talking Oscar worthy but she seems to have a magnetism and screen presence that draws you in and she could be the next big thing.

Famke Jansen stars as the leader of a coven of witches bent on worldwide damnation. This bond girl [Xenia Onatopp in Golden Eye] seems to have a gift for playing a villain. The movie is directed by Australian director Tommy because of the massive success of his first studio movie as is poised as the next Tarentino which I must say are shiny but heavy shoes to walk in. If you are looking to unwind at the end of the day, and need to watch a movie where you don’t need maximum concentration to enjoy it - then this is right up your alley.
