Tough contest as youth show talent

If there was anything to wrap up the year in the entertainment industry in Gulu, then it was the energetic performance and dance skills youth portrayed during the annual dance gala held last weekend.
It was a competitive event organised by Splendid Uganda in conjunction with Pine Avenue 5 that attracted various dance groups all eyeing the Shs1 million cash prize for the best performing dance crew.
On a sunny Saturday evening, at the Taks Arts Centre, a group of youth in their vacation, holiday makers and other revellers flocked the venue to feed their eyes on the 4th annual dance gala.
Dance floor opened
As the sun kissed the evening good bye, the dance floor was opened, thanks to the good mixes from DJ Spin and MC Big Run as the performers prepared to get onto the podium.
The competitors included Luo Galaxy Dance Crew, Boli Mo Dance Crew, Luo Revolution, Strike Back, Victim, Who Cares and Super Crew Dance Crew, who all show-cased a brilliant acrobatic, break dance and traditional dance skills that left revellers cheering them up and ululating.
It was a tough competition; nearly all the dance crews nailed it, but according to the judge - Ingrid, Collin and AY, who keenly watched the performance, there was one winner.
Boli Mo Dance Crew took the evening as the best dance group in the region.
Strike Back came second, bagging Shs400,000 cash prize. Boli Mo were also the winners of the annual dance gala dubbed ‘Pyem Myel’ last year.
Byron Komakech, the chief executive officer Splendid Uganda, said they came up with the idea in an attempt to nurture talent of youth in the region.
