In Summary

Getaways are often thought to be many miles away from the city centre. However, this hotel opens one to a world of relaxation despite being a few minutes away.

Many people spend money to have their festive days like Christmas and Easter, annual leaves in either national parks or upcountry resort centres looking for quiet places away from the city noise. A visit at The Sanctum Hotel along Entebbe- Kitala road made me discover a much closer place to have inner peace. About 10 minutes drive from the airport and 45 minutes drive from Kampala unearthed this new experience.

A statue of a traditional African man standing on tree stump holding a rhizome welcomes you to the hotel before getting to the beautiful receptionists clad in attires that blend with the hotel’s colours. An inviting aroma from the spacious restaurant at the hotel, as you walk through gardens of oranges, mangoes, jackfruits and banana plantations will arise your appetite to have a bite before exploring more of what the hotel has to offer.

The well-stocked sports bar with a full size snooker table with giant screens impresses one. A dancing hall inside the bar with projectors that display videos of the music as it plays in the bar catches your eye when you enter this area. The rooms are in apartment form with a sitting room, bedroom, kitchen and a resting shade that opens one to the cool sea breeze from Lake Victoria about two kilometres from the hotel.

The Hotel Chief Executive officer, Charles Harry Twagira, says the apartment rates are very favourable as no hotel in East African offers similar hotel apartment suites at their rates.
“We are engaged in every aspect of hotel and luxury, setting international standards of hospitality and comfort to suit our slogan ‘Turning moments into memories for our guest,” he says.
He reveals that the hotel is working hard to set up an ultra-modern spa for relaxation, steam bathing, message, pedicure and manicure and a fully equipped gym.

“People visit hotels where they sleep, watch TV and eat but at The Sanctum would give you all what other hotels would offer plus engaging you with a basketball court, volley ball court, internet hot spot and garden relaxation environment,” he adds. He says the hotel normally attracts corporate people, companies for workshops, conferences, seminars, team building activities among others.
When it comes to food, the kitchen managed by a French chef, gives one a taste of both European and Continental cuisines.

The menu does look filling and offers three specifications, A’la Carte, children’s menu and a buffet. I indulged myself in different items and failed to zero on a particularly favourite dish. Nonetheless it was a holiday well spent.
