ENTEBBE. The Inspector General of Government (IGG), Ms Irene Mulyagonja, has called on Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) officials to carry out study sessions for visitors at the centre so that they can attain knowledge on how to preserve wildlife.

Ms Mulyagonja made the remarks during her visit to the centre on Thursday.
“Some of these animals are endangered and people don’t know that, so in case of confrontation with the animals, people tend to attack them,” she said.
She further called on the officials to use the centre as an education hub as much as it’s a tourist attraction so that conservation of wildlife can be fronted to boost the country’s tourism industry.

Mr James Musinguzi, the UWEC executive director, said the centre had already started the process of educating tourists about the wildlife and the tour guides at the centre teach people about the animals in the zoo. “Among the projects that we have put to teach people is the cheetah run where people will have a chance to race alongside the cheetahs, and this is meant to raise awareness of the cheetah species which is only found in the Karamoja sub-region,” Mr Musinguzi said.
Mr Isaac Munjasi , the UWEC marketing manager, stated that the cheetah-run will kick off in the next three months, and people will be able have fun at the run along with the two cheetahs at the centre.
