Wafula Oguttu's toughest decision at Monitor
Mon Jul 24 14:10:31 EAT 2017
I think the toughest was deciding to sell The Monitor to Nation Media Group (NMG) or any other core investor. I was the last one to agree. There was a lot of pressure from some of my colleagues. I wasn’t convinced because we were then very inexperienced in world business and we were going in with a player like the Aga Khan. I was also not convinced that we would have the freedom to do what we had been doing, but when I read the editorial policy of NMG I was convinced. We had also been under pressure from a government which was squeezing us on adverts and arresting us. I felt that if a bigger company came in, it would become a lot more difficult to squeeze us.
