Movit Products Limited, a local company manufacturing skin care products, has announced it is venturing into agro-processing. This is mainly because it is becoming increasingly expensive to import raw materials for cosmetics.
Speaking at a press conference in Kampala last week, Mr Simpson Birungi, the managing director, said his company has secured Shs19 billion to venture into production of agro-products such as canned millet, sorghum porridge, potato chips and fruit processing because their raw materials are readily available and cheap.
“We shall continue to manufacture cosmetics much as raw materials such as petroleum jelly, perfumes, white oils, glycerin are very expensive yet the agro-products have cheap raw materials,” he said.
While touring the company to ascertain its adherence to quality standards last week, Mr Ben Manyindo, the executive director Uganda National Bureau of Standards lauded the management for getting certification for 35 products.
