More than seven weeks after the close of the February 2016 polls, election disputes are flooding Lira High Court.
In Oyam North, outgoing MP, Krispus Ayena Odongo (UPC) wants court to nullify the election of Mr Charles Okello Engola of the NRM ruling party on allegations of election fraud and voter bribery.
In Otuke, Mr Paul Omara, who stood on an Independent ticket, is seeking the nullification of the election of NRM’s Julius Peter Acon.
Most of the cases filed are premised on election fraud, voter bribery and the Electoral Commission’s failure to adhere to lawful procedures.
Outgoing MP for Kole South, Mr Fred Ebil Ebil who stood on the UPC ticket, is challenging the election of Independent MP Peter Ocen Akalo.
Mr Geoffrey Omara Adigi, who lost in the NRM primaries and the February 18 polls, is challenging the election of Mr Charles Angiro Gutumoi for the Erute County North Constituency.
In Kyoga County, Mr James Olobo, aka Dubai (Independent), wants the incumbent and re-elected MP Anthony Okello kicked out of the next Parliament for election malpractices and electoral fraud.
In Amolatar District, Dr Agnes Atim Apea (Independent) is challenging the election of NRM’s Doreen Amule as the district’s Woman MP.
Mr John Baptist Okello Okello, who stood on the FDC ticket, is challenging the election of NRM’s Paul Amoru Omiat as the Dokolo North MP-elect.
Mr Amoru together with the Electoral Commission is accused of electoral malpractices and failure to adhere to lawful electoral laws.
In Alebtong District, Ms Elizabeth Abongo, who stood on the FDC ticket, is challenging the election of Ms Christine Acen (NRM) as the district Woman MP.
Independent candidate Agnes Atim Apea is seeking the nullification of NRM’s Doreen Amule’s election as the Amolatar District Woman MP.
Cases in court
The issues. The petitions are a result of alleged electoral malpractices in the February 18 elections that include voter bribery, failure to adhere to lawful electoral conduct and electoral fraud, among others crimes.
